Large engraved chart, 565 x 840 mm, in fine original wash colour, with modern additional margins laid over the original margins. Evidence of old folds, one short tear repaired. Amsterdam : Covens & Mortier, 1730.
The largest printed chart of Madagascar before the nineteenth century, prepared for Mortier’s Suite du Neptune Francois, a large format sea-atlas of the world outside Europe; it was principally intended for library, rather than shipboard use, hence the high quality of engraving, and here in particular the fine bright colouring.
