On the 18th November 1893 a sencha ceremony was held at Shinnyodo Temple in Kyoto in order to celebrate the erection of a gravestone for Nakabayashi Chikudo (1776–1853) and his eldest son Chikukei (1816–1867), two important Nanga artists. This illustrated account of the meeting was edited by Murakami Wako, who had been an apprentice to Chikukei.

The illustrations include a portrait of Chikudo (?) by Tomioka Tessai, followed by scenic views of Shinnyodo temple and its surroundings, before focussing on the tea rooms decorated with seasonal flower arrangements and a display of bronze vessels and tea utensils. The text provides a list of paintings that were exhibited on the occasion.

The book was privately financed and produced by Murakami Wako and Fujii Gosharo, with distribution and sales arranged through the publishing house Kumagai Kyukodo. Rare. OCLC locates a single copy in the National Diet Library in Tokyo. Our copy also has a single-page list of books by Chikudo, not included in the digitised record of the National Diet Library’s copy.
