AYER (Alfred J.)
The Concept of a Person and Other Essays.
A collection of nine essays, on topics ranging from private experience, personal identity, mind-body relations, philosophy of language, causality and epistemology. Four of which had not been previously published. In his the first essay, on Philosophy and Language, he marks out the good philosopher as one which eschews an ‘over-dose of common sense’, setting the tone for his oppositional approach to his philosophical predecessors, rather than working alongside them, in particular against Wittgenstein’s private language argument.
