The book was positively reviewed upon publication in The Quarterly Journal of Economics by the great Chicago economist Frank H. Knight, who wrote that Homan’s ‘selection, presentation, and characterization of the essential ideas which the economists mentioned stand for will doubtless come as near to commanding assent from fair-minded readers of all schools as could be done by any one man treating of the work of others’.
