Catalogue of a solo exhibition of Tanaka’s work held at the Seibu Museum of Art in 1987. It is divided into three parts: “Around Design” is a conversation between Tanaka and the cultural historian Haga Toru (1931-2020) about the evolution of Japanese visual culture. In “The Shape of Space” the art critic Itoh Junji (1953-) shows how Tanaka utilizes negative space (? ma) as a modern design technique. “The Poetics of Form: Ikko Tanaka’s Design” by design historian Kashiwagi Hiroshi (1946-2021) analyses the geometry in Tanaka’s work.
