DIONYSIUS PERIEGETES
Dionysiou Oikoumenes Periegesis. Eis auten palaion scholia, kai eustathiou parekbolai. Dionysii Orbis Descriptio ...
Dionysius Periegetes (Dionysius the Voyager) is said to have been from Alexandria, and presumed to have been active about 130 A.D. He compiled an account of the Roman oecumene (the known, or habitable, world) in Greek hexameter verse. His text proved to be a popular school book.
This is the First Edition of Dionysius’ text as printed in Oxford; it is notable for the five map-sheets: a single sheet with two maps of the world showing the rival theories of Dionysius and Ptolemy, and maps of North Africa, Europe, the Greek world and the Middle East and central Asia.
