The book is far more frequently encountered with canvas spine and a different cover illustration. Denson, Printed Writings of George Russell, 5, has not determined which is the first issue, noting: “some copies [of the first and second (1906) editions] were issued with a variant binding, quarter canvas with a paper label on boards.” One thousand copies each for England and America.
But for banged upper corners, the binding of this very fragile volume is in exceedingly good condition. Preliminary and terminal leaves are foxed, with lighter occasional foxing elsewhere.
