First expanded edition, first impression, following initial publication as a Fabian pamphlet. The Cambridge economist Nicholas Kaldor (1908-1986) used his position in the Lords to mount a sustained intellectual attack upon the economic policies of Margaret Thatchers first government in general and on monetarism in particular. The present work, a collection of his speeches in the House, was published to coincide with the 1983 General Election, with the hope of swaying the result. The book’s title was a deliberate emulation of Keynes’s Economic Consequences of Mr. Churchill.
