With an amusingly formal inscription on the half-title page: ’Frederick Wedmore flattered by the request of G. H. Boughton [?] for his signature, Jan: ‘96’. It seems likely that this is referring to George Henry Boughton, an Anglo-American landscape and genre painter, who was elected a member the Royal Academy in 1896.
