The first English translation of Sartre’s seminal lecture on existentialism. A short text based on a lecture given by Sartre at Club Maintenant in Paris, 29th October, 1945 titled ‘Existentialism is a Humanism’, complete with the printed interventions made after Sartre repeated the lecture privately, in order to give his audience a chance to debate the contents of his talk. It was one of the first of Sartre’s philosophical works to appear in English, serving as an important populariser of existentialism in anglophone circles.
