CREASEY (Edward).
The Fifteen Decisive Battles of the World: from Marathon to Waterloo.
A presentation copy, inscribed on the title page ‘Edward Cottam from the Author E.S.Creasey 1853’.
Creasey’s book is a product of its time, the work of a man with a classical education, a suspicion of foreigners, and an emphasis, in the accounts of the battles nearer his time, on the effect they had on Britain and the British Empire. Major Stanley, in Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ says he can ‘quote the fights historical: from Marathon to Waterloo, in order categorical’.
Covers rubbed and scratched, spine faded, some small damage to the head of the spine.
