From Marshall to Keynes. An Essay on the Monetary Theory of the Cambridge School.
An important critical evaluation of Alfred Marshall’s work on money. ‘The methodology followed is to compare Marshall’s basic notions on monetary theory and policy, on the one hand, with those of the classical economists and of his contemporary writers, and, on the other, with the writings of his pupils at Cambridge. This has provided a broad view of the development of monetary theory from the classical economists to Marshall and from the latter to the Keynesian period. Viewed in this way, the monograph is an essay on the history of monetary theory, in particular as it developed at Cambridge from Marshall to Keynes’ (Preface).
