A fine first edition, both inscribed and with a letter to Elvira Niggeman (1896-1985), secretary to Sir Harold George Nicolson, Vita Sackville-West’s husband. The inscription is dated May 1946; the letter apologises for having forgotten to send Elvira the book sooner. Sackville-West also writes that “if the BBC pantechnicon consents to take some things… I will also send some Klim milk and some veg.”

Some marks and edge wear to the dust jacket, otherwise in excellent condition.
