The Great Earthquake of 1923 in Japan.
The official account of the Great Kanto Earthquake which occured on September 1st, 1923. Over 100,000 people were killed and over 70% of all buildings destroyed. Starting with the Imperial Edict on Reconstruction of September 12th, the work provides a detailed survey of the disaster in Tokyo, Yokohama and the surrounding districts and continues with an account of the relief operations, both domestic and from abroad. Also included is a chapter on the loss of Rare Books and Libraries. The atlas volume contains maps showing sea-level changes at Sagamy Bay, the devastation in Tokyo and Yokohama as well as an outline of the reconstruction scheme.
