SEKINO (Junichiro).
Hida yuki [Travels in Hida].
With two original Sekino woodblock printed postcards, signed
A charming Sekino Junichiro title accompanied by two original woodblock printed postcards: one announcing the publication of the book, the other marking its completion.
Hida is a city in Gifu prefecture, which is roughly in the middle of Japan. In the foreword, Sekino writes how he visited Hida in the summer of 1949. The present book was inspired by the novel Koya Hijiri (The Holy Man of Mt. Koya, published in 1900) by the writer Izumi Kyoka (1873-1939). On his trip, Sekino visited places in Hida that come up in the Koya Hijiri and dramatically illustrated them in this private edition.
Very rare. Only 3 copies in OCLC (NDL Tokyo and two in University of California). N.B. Both postcards are addressed to “Oto Tsunejiro” (dates unknown), who seems to have been based in Osaka. It is most likely that Oto was a collector who had subscribed to Sekino’s mailing list regarding new titles.
