This is an exceptionally interesting copy of this uncommon book. It evidentally was either an in-house copy or belonged to an enthusiast who was closely enough associated with the Jungle to acquire proof illustrations. Comments in the work show a most knowlegeable approach, many being on the unsatisfactory nature of the original illustrations of horns (improved in later editions). The owner kept annotating the work until the early years of the twentieth century. At a later date the volume was aquired by H. Cobb, an Indian Civil Servant, the original owner though remains tantalizingly obscure.
