[NOOTKA SOUND]

How are we ruined!

from the Carlton House Magazine. Copperplate etching measuring 188 by 120mm, trimmed to plate mark. A crisp copy in an archival mount. London, 1794.

£400.00

A scarce print related to the Nootka Sound Controversy. The print depicts three gentlemen sitting around a table looking at an issue of the Times and an issue of the Gazetteer. The Englishman looks very happy and has a document in his pocket entitled Pension. The Frenchman(?) looks very unhappy and the third gentleman (possibly a Spaniard), appears to be throwing up! In the background, someone is pinning a map to the wall showing the Pacific Ocean, Nootka Sound, and Toulon. There is another document on the wall entitled Bounty Discontinued.
