Wood enlisted with the Royal Engineers (Signals) and volunteered for service in East Africa in 1917: “One reason prompting my volunteering was Rider Haggard’s books” [p.15]. Wood’s style is chatty and informal but there is much detail, including his first sighting of the wreck of the Königsberg - “One thing stood out clearly, there wasn’t a single piece of gunnery, good or bad, to be seen.” [p.23].
A scarce little account. No copies on OCLC.
