The Webster copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: “A.D. Tupper-Cary from an old friend,, schoolfellow and fag Bledisloe Monte-Carlo 19 Jan 1936”. A tipped-in note reads “I am in no way responsible for this selection of addresses. I am however responsible for the title of the book. It expresses the ideal which I had ever in my mind. The illustrations moreover are reproductions of photos taken with my camera either by myself or by one of my A.D.C.s. Bledisloe.”
