A fine copy, inscribed “To John Le Carré with all my thanks to let me live with the hope, every year, to read a new book from him. Claude Meillet. 20 Mai 2009.” The cover bears the subtitle “Avec la participation de John Le Carré, Jacques Prévert, Voltaire, Molière, Hemingway, La Fontaine, William Faulkner, La Bible, Platon.” and a small correspondence card from Meillet explains that le Carré is the only living author he has pastiched here: “I hope for your pardon.” Meillet, now based between Paris and Israel, describes himself on the card as a “Conseil en identité”, a peculiarly French job title for what might in the Anglophone world be called a Brand Consultant.
From the library of David Cornwell aka John Le Carré.
