The album begins with a fine group of the 1872 Winchester College cricket eleven which may help identify the compiler, but he is presumably one of the Sub Lieutenants pictured in the group image which seems to date between July and September 1878. There are pictures of the naval Brigade Camp on the Tugela the Ultimation, The aftermath of the Battle of Ekowe and the cemetery there. The Active officers were present during the action.
