MARSHALL (Alfred).

Industry and Trade. A study of industrial technique and business organization; and of their influences on the conditions of various classes and nations.

Third edition, fifth printing. Large 8vo. xxiv, 874, [2] pp. Original blue cloth, dust jacket (contents unmarked; crude tape reinforcements to tips of spine and corners of jacket, otherwise very good). London, Macmillan and Co., Limited, 1932.

A nice reprint of Marshall’s ‘second masterpiece’, originally published in 1919, ‘a magisterial, largely factual, consideration of trends in the British and international economy and of future economic prospects. But, lacking an obvious theoretical skeleton, it has not received from economists the kind of attention lavished on Principles, although interest in it is now beginning to stir among historians of economics’ (New Palgrave).
