Blackmer 246: “[Isabel Burton] spent only about two years in the Levant, because Burton was recalled in 1871 and transferred to Trieste. This very interesting work discusses her experiences in Syria and life as she saw it among all classes of Arabs, Christians and Jews. Her account of the Harem is of especial value. She also describes in detail her visit to Jerusalem with her husband and Tyrwhitt Drake. Mrs. Buron also produced AEI, Arbia, Egypt and India, 1879, and a biography of her husband in 1893.”
