An excellent handbook to 1960s Jeddah, covering everything from general tourist advice (hotels, cuisine, health) to more granular information for businesspeople (company law, ports, income tax). Other sections give brief introductions to Islam, Hajj and the history of Saudi Arabia.

The advertisements, which bookend the main text, provide a fascinating insight into the commercial life of Jeddah at the time. All manner of companies feature, including numerous local merchants selling everything from French cars to Saudi-made detergents.

Provenance: Francis E.B. Witts (b.1941). Witts attended MECAS and spent much of his career in the Middle East, primarily at Morgan Grenfell, the merchant bank, with posts in Beirut, Cairo and Istanbul.
