The first edition was published in 1688, followed by a second in 1690. The personal narrative of French nobleman turned buccaneer Raveneau de Lussan. Born in Paris in 1663 to an impoverished aristocratic family, Lussan sought his fortune amongst the freebooters in the South Seas. He headed first to Santo Domingo where he linked up with Dutch pirate Laurens de Graff, and proceeded to participate in raids on Grenada and Guayaquil in Ecuador. His two years of piracy off the Pacific coast of the Americas are recounted in this work. A version of this text also forms the third volume of Exquemelin.
