SCORESBY (Rev. William).
Journal of a Voyage to Australia
“The voyage was undertaken by Dr. Scoresby in the Ship Royal Charter, with the object of observing the changes which take place in the magnetic state of an iron ship proceeding from a northern to a southern magnetic latitude, and of deciding certain questions as to the best mode of correcting the deviations of the compass in such a ship” (Ferguson). Published posthumously, it includes an opening discourse on magnetic observation before the narrative proper.
The ownership inscription of “E.G.W. Blunt” probably belongs to the sons of Edmund Blunt, the navigator. Edmund (1799-1866) and George William (1802-1878) were booksellers, opening their premises in New York under the name E & G.W. Blunt in 1824. They specialised in nautical books.
