A Journey to Mount Kilima-Njaro, Africa.
Sir Henry Hamilton Johnston (1858-1927) was a British explorer and colonial administrator, best-known for his travels throughout Africa.
This sketch was used as an illustration in Johnston’s A Journey to Mount Kilima-Njaro, Africa, which was published in The Graphic, in four parts from June 13 to July 11, 1885. The four parts, bound together in recent half cloth, are offered here with the original drawing.
It also appeared as illustration number 78 (p.444) in Johnston’s celebrated book-length account of the expedition, *The Kilima-Njaro Expedition (*London, 1886).
