Kosetsu shiki [The Story of the Blind Man from the Records of the Grand Historian]

A hand-coloured copy of this title.

Muramatsu Ei (1923-2008), a scholar of Japanese and Chinese literature, had published a novel titled Kosetsu shiki in 1968 with cover and illustrations by Sekino. The book references the Chinese classic Shiji, known in English as the Records of the Grand Historian, written by Sima Qian in the 1st–2nd century BC. The present book is a collection of Sekino’s illustrations for Muramatsu’s novel.

Within the edition of 95, some copies were printed as rubbings from the original woodblock while others were printed normally from the same blocks, with hand colouring applied after. It is not entirely clear how many in the edition were done with each method.
