THOMAS (Bertram).
The Kumzari Dialect of the Shihuh Tribe, Arabia, and a Vocabulary.

A scarce offprint of Thomas’s essay on Kumzari, the language spoken by the Shihuh tribe of Oman and the United Arab Emirates. As well as this offprint - issued for Thomas to send to specific people ‘With the Author’s Compliments’ - the Royal Asiatic Society also published the essay as a monograph bound in printed boards.

Bertram Sidney Thomas (1892-1950) is best remembered as the first European to cross the Rub’ Al Khali (Empty Quarter), a remarkable feat accomplished in 1930-31 while serving as Finance Minister and Wazir to the Sultan of Muscat and Oman. He had previously served in Mesopotamia (Iraq), initially with the Somerset Light Infantry and then as an Assistant Political Officer.
