SEKINO (Junichiro)
Kusa no mi tori [Gathering grass seeds]

A beautifully sensitive book by renowned printmaker Sekino Junichiro (1914-1988), in collaboration with the art book publishers Gohachi.

Entirely printed in woodblock, the book starts with a double-page title page with a sentence in English running across the top “Love and pleasure had me make this book of wood-cut prints” with Sekino’s signature (in Roman letters) across the bottom. Indeed, the story is a sentimental tale of a young boy and his grandfather. Together they go on bicycle rides through mountain villages, collecting little leaves and seeds from nature. One day, the grandfather tragically falls off his bike and passes away, leaving the boy with the mementos of their time together in the woods.
