An uncommon titleThe author was an officer in the East Africa Protectorate Service. In this role he found himself attacked by the hostile Wakamba tribe and in order to counter their advances he employed local Masai to assist the police. In so doing he was able to communicate directly with the first of this reticent tribe to be employed in Government service. As a result of these exchanges Hinde has been able to write this fascinating book, the first on the Masai since Joseph Thomson’s uncommon work “Through Masailand”.
