A lovely souvenir from the early twentieth century. Elmer D. Raymond was founder and president of the Round-the-World-Society. In exchange for a modest sum, subscribers would receive regular letter from Raymond as he travelled from New York to England, France, Belgium, and Norway, from where he made a dash for the North Pole, and returned via Italy, Tunisia and Morocco. Commencing on 6 July, 1925, he travelled variously by steamer and plane.

Raymond wrote twelve letters from the Arctic some of which are titled variously as: “In the northernmost city in the world”, “The land of many surprises”, “A great experiment in the Arctic”, “Finding the remains of Andree’s balloon expedition”, and “The dash toward the pole.”

All the letters here are addressed to James R. Cooney in Asheville North Carolina.
