A presentation copy, inscribed to his brother-in-law on the front free endpaper ‘To R. Farquharson Sharp with best Xmas and New Year wishes from W.S. Xmas /87’. One of a series of biographies by Sharp commissioned for the ‘Great Writers’ series (the others were on Browning and Heine) which greatly helped Sharp in earning a living as a writer.
