WOODTHORPE (R[obert] G[osset])

The Lushai Expedition 1871-1872.

Engraved frontispiece and title-page illustration, map. Very light marginal browning, small embossed stamp of the W.H. Smith Library on the Strand to the front free endpaper, otherwise a very nice copy indeed in the original purple cloth, a little bubbled on the boards, spine slightly sunned. vi, 338pp. Hurst and Blackett, 1873.

£400.00

Unusually nice copy of this account of the punitive expedition conducted against the Lushais. Woodthorpe had joined the RE in 1865, proceeding to India in 1869. He was serving with the Survey Department when the expedition was staged. Woodthorpe subsequently served on the Kurram and Kabul Field Forces, Second Afghan War, and in the Third Burma War.
