A fabulous photo paste-up showing hyper realistic mannequins
A promotional pamphlet for mannequin and bust manufacturers in Belgium.
This wonderful piece of printed ephemera is a good example of photo paste-up, a design process where by a collage of photographs and graphic elements are composed by hand, rephotographed, then reproduced in print. Although undated, this pamphlet is very likely from the 1920s, as hinted at by the hairstyles and flapper dresses adorning the mannequins. In Belgium, the famous maker of hyper-realistic wax mannequins was Pierre Imans.
