SHAKESPEARE (William). &
RACKHAM (Arthur).
A Midsummer Night's Dream.
These illustrations to a Midsummer Night’s Dream rapidly filled the public imagination when thinking of Shakespeare and the drama. Of Rackham’s large body of work this was the one which pleased him the most, and its first publication inspired William de Morgan to write to Rackham that the book was ‘the most splendid illustrated work of the century, so far’.
Lacking the original ties (as often), and some very slight soiling and spotting to the binding, but a very good copy indeed.
From the library of David Cornwell aka John Le Carré.
