GENERAL HEADQUARTERS, INDIA.
Military Intelligence Directorate - Japanese Military Forces.

A fascinating and detailed booklet about Japanese military organisation of the various branches, including infantry, cavalry, artillery, air borne troops, engineers etc. Interestingly, chapter one deals with the political influence of the Army and Japanese military characteristics. The last chapter provides information on uniforms and rank badges. “Much valuable material in this book has been obtained by expert interrogation of Japanese prisoners … To say that the only good Jap is a dead one is sheer ‘Blimp.’ Bring ’em back alive. There is an erroneous idea that Japanese prisoners will not talk. This is not true, but do not waste time trying to make them talk English. Do not maltreat prisoners but send them back as quickly as possible. Intelligence will guarantee being able to return useful information to the services. Help Intelligence to help you.” [Introduction].

The first edition of this title was published in March 1942. There is a further note on verso of the introduction stating: “The First Edition of Japanese Military Forces is cancelled. The Second edition will not be amended, but from time to time pamphlets will be published as a substitute for chapters which require rewriting.”

Very rare. No copy of the first edition in OCLC; Only one copy of the 2nd edition in OCLC (US Army War College).
