Mimi no Matsuri: the ear festival

A highly playful and clever poetry book by visual artist and poet Ito Motoyuki (1935–).

Born in the northern prefecture of Iwate, Ito is an experimental poet who channels his writing into visual art – much in the style of concrete poetry. He was a later member of VOU Club, an avant garde poetry collective founded in 1935 by Kitasono Katsue (1902-1978). The VOU Club also published a poetry journal called VOU, to which Ito contributed on a number of occasions. Along with fellow poet Takahashi Shohachiro (1933–2014), in 1975 he co-founded a visual poetry publication called 317.

The present publication is a cleverly engineered book which folds out to reveal four different visual poems. On the inside of the dust jacket there is an explanation of the typographic elements of the poetry and loosely inserted in the book is a folded sheet which explains how the books can be opened.

Very rare. No copies in OCLC.
