A series of 12 hand coloured plates, enlarged from Mr. Leech’s drawings. Folio. Half green morocco, gilt, cloth boards, a.e.g. London, Bradbury & Evans, 1860.
Leech was one of the foremost comic illustrators of his time and could count Ruskin and Millais among his admirers. He was a regular contributor to Punch from its inception in 1841 as well as working on Dickens’s Christmas Books. These plates show one of Leech’s well-loved inventions, the intrepid but accident-prone Mr Briggs, caught in various fishing misadventures.
