BURROUGHS (William).

The Naked Lunch.

First edition, first impression, first issue with Francs 1500. Small 8vo. Original printed green wrappers, pictorial dust jacket designed by Brion Gysin. Paris, The Olympia Press, 1959.

£1,500.00

Originally considered too sexually explicit and controversial to publish in the English speaking world, The Naked Lunch by American writer William Burroughs first published in full as part of the Traveller’s Companion series with the Olympia Press edition in Paris, France. At this time, the Olympia Press was known for publishing works that explored more ‘racy’ themes of sex and drug use, such as Burroughs work. However, at first opportunity, the press found The Naked Lunch to be too risky for even their brand before eventually publishing it two years later.

A very good copy, minor wear on edges of wrappers and jacket, small tear to blank fore margins of final two leaves, not effecting text.
