The first British edition, with the map and plates identical to those of the American, printed in Philadelphia in 1824. The primary work on Long’s second expedition, compiled by its historiographer and geologist. “…Almost a cyclopedia of material, relating to the Indians of the explored territory. Nothing escaped the attention of the gentlemen who accompanied the expedition; and their statements regarding the customs, character, and numbers of the Sioux and Chippeway tribes, are among the most valuable we have of those people” - Sabin. Following the appendix in the second volume is a ten page “Vocabulary of Indian languages” with translations into “Sakewi, or Sauk. Dakota, or Sioux. Ochippewag, or Chippewa. Killisteno, or Cree.”
