RICH (Claudius James).
Narrative of a Residence in Koordistan, and on the Site of Ancient Nineveh; With Journal of a Voyage down the Tigris to Bagdad and an Account of a Visit to Shirauz and Persepolis. Edited by his widow.

A clean copy of this scarce and valuable work.

A noted linguist and scholar, Rich first devoted himself to study of the Middle East during his time as assistant to the British consul-general in Alexandria. A posting in Baghdad followed, and it was during this time that he undertook his explorations of Babylon - an undertaking that led to his 1839 publication Narrative of a Journey to the Site of Babylon in 1811. In 1820, after spending some time in Europe, Rich began an extensive tour of Kurdistan. His in depth geographical and topographical investigations culminated in Narrative of a Residence in Koordistan.
