A lovely relic of nineteenth-century American viticulture.

Although wine has been produced in the United States since the seventeenth century, it was only in the early nineteenth century that the American wine industry really began. Having planted the first vines in 1810, the French Huguenot, Jean Jacques’ Brotherhood Winery produced the first documented vintage in the United States in 1839. Nineteen years later, his sons (John Jr, Oren and Charles) took over the business and duly changed the name to Jacques Bros. It traded under that name until 1886, when it was sold.
