Juliet Bredon (c. 1881-1937) was the daughter of Sir Robert Edward Bredon, the Deputy Inspector-General Imperial Maritime Customs. She spent much of her life in Peking and wrote a number of bestsellers about the country. The present is her well-researched guide to Peking. Bredon provides a very readable introduction to the palaces and major temples in and surrounding the capital. Includes chapters on how to buy antiques at shops and fairs. The present edition has been enlarged with a map of the surroundings of the capital by Bretschneider.
