Plan. Hydrographic del Co[n]statinople

Manuscript, ink and some grey wash on paper, on four sheets joined, widest 520 x 1510 mm, backed on modern paper for support (some time ago), some paper loss in blank areas of the map infilled with some manuscript reinstatement to the compass rose and rhumb lines at upper right. One short open tear, some staining. [Spain, perhaps Catalonia?], 1770.

£2,500.00

Unusual chart of the Dardanelles, the Sea of Marmara to Istanbul with the mouth of the passage to the Black Sea. Hydrographic detail is confined to sections of the shoreline, with anchorages noted. Although there are decorative compass roses, the overall execution and appearance of a working sea-chart.

A rare survival thus.
