Cockle 663; Spaulding & Karpinski 30.

Attractive and far from common compendium of advice on military matters, includes explosives and artillery. Ruscelli was criticised by Digges for his lack of knowledge of mathematics and by Norton for his “false rules”. [See Cockle 25 and 114]. The author is probably best known for the pseudonymous De Secreti… Alessio Piemontese, a medical work which enjoyed enormous popularity in the C16th & C17th running to more than a hundred editions by 1699.
