[LOWREY (James).]

The Real, Genuine, and Authentic Narrative of the Proceedings of Capt. James Lowrey, before and after he was appointed Commander of the Ship Molly.

MUTINY

First edition. 8vo. A fine copy in modern half calf, orange marbled boards, red morocco label, small closed tear to title-page. [ii], 29, [1]pp. London, Printed for T. Harris, 1752.

£1,500.00

The Brooke-Hitching copy. Herein is the narrative of James Lowrey, the ill-fated Commander of the Molly, who was convicted of murdering a member of his mutinous crew during a voyage from Jamaica to London. The text was apparently drawn from court transcripts as well as his own testimony.

Using Copac, ESTC and OCLC we could locate only 4 copies in the UK and 3 in North America (at New York Public Library, Case Western Reserve, and the University of Oklahoma). This edition is significantly rarer than a contemporaneous work on Lowrey titled The only genuine and authentic narrative of the proceedings of the late Capt. James Lowrey…, printed for Thomas Parker, [1752].
