CHELSEA BABIES CLUB.
Recipes for Food and Conduct.
A very good copy indeed of this uncommon book on child-rearing, with passages on ante natal care, breast feeding, milk, patent foods (a very short, half page chapter damns them entirely), and recipes (which include some fairly alarming but healthy dishes including brains, steamed and brains, stewed). This idealist clinic and booklet is best known for its eccentric commitment to fresh air, which led to the invention, manufacture and marketing of the “Sunanandair”, a cage that hangs on a window ledge (think of a cross between an airconditioning unit and a rather small pigeon loft), allowing apartment-raised children to sleep outdoors. This is both discussed, illustrated, and advertised. Enid Bagnold was a great supporter of the clinic. A very good copy, slight darkening at margins of upper wrapper, with an unidentified note on the front cover reading “Last Copy of this edition sold 19.5.44.”
