Sandler 3088. One of the most successful Peninsula memoirs, going to five editions in a couple of years. Gives “… the day-by-day camp life of… the 48th [34th] in 1811-13, … pleasant and life-like, and since… [it was] published within ten years of the end of the war… the writer’s memories were still strong, and [his] statements of fact may be relied upon.” [Wellington’s Army… pp.27-8] This first edition is quite uncommon.
