NO COPY TRACED AT AUCTION SINCE 1999
Church of England clergyman James Beaven (1801-1875) emigrated from England to Canada in 1843 to assume the appointment as Professor of Divinity at University King’s College in Toronto. Prominent in church affairs and canon of St James’ Cathedral, he also authored at least sixteen publications, of which this is his best known. It “describes a diocesan tour in 1845 on which he accompanied Bishop John Strachan as far as Sault Ste Marie”, and includes much on the First Nations people of the region“ (DCB). In the introduction he hints that one object of the publication is to garner subscription from English readers, in order to fund a new Mission to the Chippewa Nation at Sault, just across the boarder in Michigan.
No copy at auction since Siebert in 1999.
